Hey, Beauty (yes, boys, talking to you too), welcome to Grasping Nettles.  This is a blog about gardening, health, food, sustainability, travel and more, but it’s also about my personal experience of working towards a better self, life and, in my own small way, world.

Sharing is one of the ways I get through life without going mad.  It makes hard things easier, happy things happier, and, of course, we’d all be constantly reinventing the wheel without it.  I’m here because I want to connect with you and others like us.  I hope you’ll find some of my posts useful and entertaining, and I look forward to hearing from you!

I’m a massage therapist, gardener and sometimes adventurer.  I also love yoga, cooking, and the outdoors, and I probably read too much.  I’m keenly interested in permaculture and sustainable building and technology, and hope to be doing more with them in the future.

Like all of us, I am perfectly imperfect, and I’m good with that.  I love my life.  But I want more.  I want to be better.  Not better than anyone else, just better than I was yesterday.  I want to be happier, healthier, more compassionate and mindful, I want to learn more, see more and do more.  I want to strive towards my own potential, and that means accepting and working with my weaknesses, building on my strengths, and facing my demons.

As for my life, I want two things:  I want to enjoy it.  I want to cram it full of good things – contentment, love, pleasure, beauty…  And I want to find ways of living it that not only do less harm, but actually do some good.  I’m lucky enough that both my current jobs tick both boxes, but I intend to go beyond that.  My goal is to build a life that more fully integrates all the things that are important to me.  It’s a journey (I told myself I wasn’t going to use that word, but there it is) and I want to share it with you.
