Reflections

Today I leave my ‘digs’ in Namibia for what will be a 33 hour journey of long flights and poor connections to get home. I will finally have time to open the book I brought with me, but have been too busy to read!

Time now, sitting in a gorgeous coffee shop in downtown Windhoek, to reflect on my four weeks here. I have learnt too many things, but list here just a few :

Leave some time out of volunteering to see the country and meet more people. Plan a little bit more, but allow for spontaneity.

I was comfortable travelling alone, little phased me. Even when I was ill I fought on.

Need to be fitter next time.

Living life out of a rucksack is torture.

Only things not used : Mossie Net, Raincoat.

Need to take: better camera, wildlife books, washing powder, and an SD card reader ( key for the blog for moving pictures off my camera to phone).

How few toiletries one can live on. The Boot’s mini travel packs of everything, lasted me four weeks.

Writing a blog was a : great challenge, forced me to focus my thoughts, kept me connected and sat with me through some lonely dinners making me feel someone was there to chat to. Improvements in blog site needed.

Maybe its an Africa affect, but four weeks away transports you in to another world and away from your life and worries. My obsession before I left home was, “where should I live in the world?” ( 1st World problem!) when here the question is not where to live in the world, but “how do I live in this world”

Will need a very long session, or perhaps several, to hear about it all next time we meet! x

Insightful how, when one comes out of the rat race, the questions; what truly is important and how you are able to reflect on such importance change with perspective and time away from the norm. Interested to see what comes next for you as you navigate the return. Safe travels.
