First Impressions.

22 hours travelling including 4 hours sleep in a claustrophobic, hard, upright seat in an overhot plane is really not easy. But then I was happy to finally arrive in a rainy Tokyo after seeing that Turkish Airlines had flown us in a Boeing 757 Max. Memories of all those new planes sitting out in the Californian desert having their automatic control system checked, before putting the already livered new planes in to service. Hey ho, but here now.

First impressions? Where are the 37million who are supposed to live here? The airport was quiet, the train in to central Tokyo near empty. It was only arriving at Shibuya that we met the Japanese. It is said at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing an average of 2500 people cross each time the lights change. Now put an umbrella in the hands of the 2500 people and, in any other country, apart from Japan, I think this would result in pedestrian rage and eye injuries.

It’s raining and grey here. My first impressions. I thought it would be more glitzy and certainly greener, but then this is just one area and wherever looks good in rain?

In stark contrast every shop you pass or enter is full of bubble gum pink and children’s cartoon characters. Maybe it’s the jetlag, but I feel like I’m an extra in a Barbie movie.
