Following the shortest of safety briefings : beware the 3 S’s ( spiders, scorpions and snakes) and respect each other ( loved that being part of a safety briefing), we are off on another 5 hour journey to base camp. This time treated to 30 minutes of tarmac, driving north up the skeleton coast, only to leave it for 4 plus hours of dirt roads inland.
Base camp is situated in a dried up river bed in the Ugab River Valley, a river that runs east to west just north of the highest mountain in Namibia called Brandberg ( 2573m).
Base camp is made up of a wooden made kitchen, raised stone fire pit, a stone cold store, cobb built showers and loos, a wooden platform set up in the trees for sleeping and a water tank for any passing elephants.
Base camp is just a staging post to adventures further in to the hinterland. A place for acclimatising to bush life, and, back there now as I write a place for a much needed shower after 6 days of minimal personal hygiene.

Love the idea of sleeping in the tree’s, not loving the though of the 3 S’s 😬

Soooo amazed and proud of you my amazing friend ❤️
Ah yes, the shower after 6 days without… I remember that! Delicious. And sleeping under the stars… so wonderful. Very jealous right now! x
